Coronavirus: Divers discover Philippine reef lined with single-use face masks

Private Protecting Gear (PPE) is washing up on coral reefs near the Philippine capital, Manila. Based on an estimate by the Asian Growth Financial institution, throughout the peak of the Covid-19 outbreak, town may have been producing as much as 280 tonnes of additional medical waste per day.

Environmental teams are warning that the plastic inside face masks is breaking down and being consumed by marine wildlife. They’re urging the Philippine authorities to enhance its dealing with of medical waste, to forestall additional air pollution of the seas.
